Graffiti was horrible

I was saddened to read about the defacing of the Morgan family home (“‘Get out’ spray-painted on home of refugee family,” May 9). This is not the way I want my fellow Americans treated, nor would I want immigrants or minorities to feel as though their communities are not safe for them to live in.

To the person or persons who scrawled that horrible message: Unless you are a Native American (and I have a strong suspicion that you aren’t) then guess what? You are only here because your ancestors immigrated to this country from somewhere else. Instead of hating others, perhaps you should take the time to get to know the immigrants of Spokane.

I have had the privilege of working with and befriending immigrants from all over the world. I’ve learned about other cultures, foods, religions and witnessed the unique perspective that those from other countries possess. If you could befriend an immigrant, you may be able to experience those great things too. You may find yourself a better person for it. Best wishes to the Morgan family.
