Quartzsite fan responds to our story

Not so fast, Going Mobile. Your slam job on Quartzsite missed an important aspect of the Arizona RV outpost.

That’s the message we got from one RVer, Tom Mosher .

A little background: A couple of weeks ago, we wrote about visiting Quartzsite, Ariz., a popular destination for RVers. While we were amazed by the scene of RVs camping in and around the desert, we weren’t exactly thrilled about the vibe we got in town.

Tom, a member of the Family Motor Coach Assn. , and the Escapees RV Club , said that we missed the whole point of Quartzsite: The community.

Tom wrote us this:

“The most important part of Quartzsite for us was the annual gathering of Escapee Boomers at their preferred site in the desert about 3 miles SE of Q. Many, many other groups gathered for similar reasons to ours —  friendship and camaraderie. This is what I found missing from your article.”

Tom continues:

“The point I make is that Quartzsite is much more than you describe, and your description was correct in most respects. It is to many RVers an incredible gathering of friends who are typically wandering around in other places much of the year and is a coming-together of friends with many common interests.”

Point taken, Tom! Thanks for your thoughtful response.

You’re right, we are just beginning our RV travels and as yet haven’t connected with a community. It’s nice to hear from veteran RVers who have more experience.

We’d love to hear more opinions. What do you think of Quartzsite? Send email responses to goingmobile@spokesman.com .
