Eliminate need for abortion

On Sunday, June 23, Patrick Kirlin wrote a letter titled “Pro-Life won’t be passive.” Rather than merely working to ban abortion, I propose that the pro-life movement needs to work to eliminate the need for abortion.

The three actions I see are: 1) Make safe, reliable, low-cost contraceptives readily available; 2) Provide nonjudgmental pre-natal care and support to those who are not ready to start families; and 3) Adopt all of the babies once they are born to provide them with the opportunity to become productive members of society.

Merely working to ban abortion without eliminating the need for abortion is being punitive to those who made a bad decision or had bad luck and ended up pregnant.
