DNR plans to use Roundup

Most of you have seen ads on TV by legal forms who want to represent you if you have non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (a type of cancer) and have been using the herbicide Roundup. The Associated Press carried a story about a California jury that ruled against Monsanto on May 13. Monsanto was ordered to pay $2 billion to Alva and Alberta Pilliod, who are both dying of this blood cancer.

The Pilliods’ attorneys said in a statement after the verdict: “Instead of investing in sound science, they invested millions in attacking science that threatened their business agenda.”

The plaintiffs’ attorneys estimate that there are now 13,400 similar Roundup cancer cases pending in state and federal courts in the U.S.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources has just proposed to spray Roundup northeast of Colville near campgrounds and trout streams that flow into private land. They did not notify the public of their plans. They did not ask for feedback or comments.

Please let Bob McKellar know how you feel. He’s the assistant regional manager for the DNR in northeast Washington. He can be reached at (509) 684-7474. You can visit him at his office located at 225 S. Silke Road in Colville.
