Click here to dishonor the dead
I’m disgusted at CenturyLink’s unconscionable practice of using the death of people of mention for commercial gain! It’s difficult to imagine that none of those responsible for this practice have any notion that it’s at best, immoral.
A couple of recent examples from my CenturyLink Homepage:
1. A group photo of celebrities — including Doris Day — captioned, “Beloved star passes away!”
2. A photo of Tim Conway alongside Betty White — captioned, “Legendary Comic passes away.”
These and similar photos are coupled with an offer to click on them to discover who it was that we just lost. Well, who wouldn’t be interested in knowing the answer? If you have any feelings or appreciation for those who’ve enriched your life — through entertainment, writing, or service of many kinds — then you will care about them.
Sadly, the offer for the information leads to a virtual “landfill” of advertising — many for scams — all of which will pay CenturyLink for any business created. So, rather than honoring the memories of those who left us laughing, or loved, or otherwise well served, CenturyLink victimizes them and their grieving families for tainted gain.
