Two GOP reps propose pre-K pilot project
Two GOP state representatives, Reps. Patrick McDonald of Boise and Christy Perry of Nampa, will propose legislation this morning to start a “kindergarten preparedness” program in Idaho, in the form of a three-year pilot project, Boise State Public Radio reports. The proposal would use a combination of state and private money to launch optional early education programs at participating public schools across the state; it’s up for consideration in the House Education Committee this morning. UPDATE: The committee voted to introduce the bill, on a divided voice vote, reports Idaho Education News.
McDonald told BSPR, “We’ve been told all year long that children are not prepared for kindergarten. If they’re not prepared for kindergarten they’re certainly not prepared for school.” BSPR’s full report is online here .
