Sounders at the halfway point: Underperforming and looking for direction

With just 16 points at the halfway mark, the Sounders have run out of leeway when it comes to turning their season around. They need to figure out which players will help them steal some unexpected victories against top-flight opponents the final 17 games if they're to make the playoffs.

Revolution, Sounders play to scoreless draw

Matt Turner recorded his fourth shutout of the season and the New England Revolution played to a scoreless draw with the Seattle Sounders. Turner made one save for the Revs and Stefan Frei needed one save in his clean sheet for the Sounders.

Will Bruin leads Seattle Sounders past Colorado Rapids 2-1

Will Bruin scored twice and Stefan Frei made a spectacular save to help the Seattle Sounders to their second win in their last eight games, 2-1 over the Colorado Rapids. It was Seattle’s second straight win over Colorado on the Fourth of July. The Sounders are 7-3-1 all-time at Colorado.

Larrys Mabiala scores twice, Timbers beat Sounders 3-2

Larrys Mabiala scored off of two corner kicks, the second the winner in the 74th minute, in the Portland Timbers’ 3-2 victory over the Seattle Sounders. Samuel Armenteros also scored, and Diego Valeri assisted on all three goals to help the Timbers extend their unbeaten streak to 10 games.

Clint Dempsey scores first goal of season, Sounders tie Fire, 1-1

Clint Dempsey scored his first goal of the season to match the Seattle regular-season career goals record, helping the Sounders tie the Chicago Fire 1-1. Dempsey tied the club record for regular-season goals with 47 set by Fredy Montero from 2009-12. It was Dempsey’s 57th goal across all competitions for the Sounders, three away from Montero’s overall mark.

Sounders pipeline from Cameroon leads to rare teammate combination

Sounders left back Nouhou and newly-added striker Felix Chenkam both hail from the same port city in Cameroon, a rarity for Major League Soccer teammates. They are part of an ever-growing and somewhat controversial pipeline of Cameroonians to MLS that the Sounders have been active participants in.

Timbers beat Sounders 1-0 in 100th meeting

Sebastian Blanco broke out his Chucky mask for a goal against the rival Sounders. In a nod to his nickname back home in Argentina, Blanco donned the mask in celebration after scoring in the 86th minute in the Portland Timbers’ 1-0 victory over Seattle on Sunday.
