DFO: I worked for four years in Red Bluff, Calif., where rattlesnakes died if they made the mistake of trying to cross one of the hot-as-blazes roads in the afternoons. The temperature hit 118 on the day I interviewed for the sports editor's job for the Red Bluff Daily News. I know what hot is, folks. But that was then. Now, if the temperature passes 85, I'm panting.
