Sue: Partisanship Reins When Scandals Surface

Sue: It's almost comical to me that some will yell loudly that this (Rep. Mark Foley) scandal shouldn't be seen as a partisan issue. Almost immediately they will inject a statement to make it partisan: i.e., Franks (what was his scandal?); Congressman William Jefferson w/$90,000 in the freezer; still can't believe Bill Clinton's name hasn't been brought up, but it will. Isn't it enough to say that Foley acted in an abhorent way, was right to step down, and that there should be an investigation to see how this was handled start to finish? No politics there, just doing the right thing. In all of this, lets not forget the kids who got an unexpected education from their time in Washington.

DFO: Sue, the true partisans almost always take note of the other party's mortal sins. But ignore their own party's. I once was like that. But I've gotten to the point that both parties turn my stomach with their petty partisanship, especially when one of their own is in trouble. If Foley tried to hit on an under-age page, and it appears that he did, he deserves contempt. If Demo Rep. William Jefferson of Louisiana is guilty of political corruption, he deserves contempt. These guys'll get the message when hard-core partisans quit making excuses for them. Or quit hunkering down with them until the scandal blows over.
