Pride in country has waned
When Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, I was proud of my country. As a nation we gathered around our TV sets and for a brief time forgot about Vietnam. Before that, we watched over and over the Zapruder film from Dallas in 1963. Since the moon landing, the majority of mass media events have been Oklahoma Cities, Watergates, funerals and the twin towers.
We have lost our spirit as a nation. I am still proud to be an American, but my pride is derived from the fathers that work two jobs to support their families, from the single mothers that step up to the plate every day and from the service men and women who put their lives at risk for us.
My disappointment is in our politicians who put their party affiliations, personal gain and power trips ahead of their responsibility to the people that elected them.
