No tolerance for violence

The Spokesman-Review

Teachers sacrifice a lot in their jobs: good pay, time and energy, but should never have to sacrifice their safety.

In our day and age people are sometimes oversensitive. But I believe with the ever looming threat of school shootings, precautions must be taken to protect teachers and students alike.

In the current case of the junior from Mead High School, I believe the actions taken by authorities were spectacular. Columbine and the Virginia Tech incidents were massacres that could have been avoided had someone stopped the culprit in the early stages. People knew and did not say a thing, causing the death of innocent students.

Programs should be implemented in schools to educate faculty, staff and students about the dangers and precautions that can be taken to stop school violence. Providing education will stop school violence in its tracks.
