Near nature, near yucky

After dinner at a downtown restaurant, we took a walk through the gondola side of Riverfront Park down to the falls. We were surprised and amazed at the sad state of disrepair it is in – from railings that need to be repaired and painted, to unkempt walkways, litter, graffiti as well as overgrown weeds (some are on the noxious list).

The river was beautiful – perfect. But the environment around it was sad. Not even close to being perfect. It was disappointing to see the metal sculpture of the mountain goat standing on the rocky outcropping of basalt, above the river, seemingly gazing over a discarded undergarment. Spokane may be near nature, but it is far from being near perfect.

Riverfront Park is supposed to be the pride and joy of our city. The lack of care and respect for our park is disheartening.
