Mosque foes on risky path

I am an evangelical, born-again Christian. I believe Jesus Christ when he says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” I am a pastor. I am also concerned about the subversion of the First Amendment currently being encouraged by key leaders of the political right.

There is a movement to discourage the building of a mosque on private property two blocks away from ground zero in New York City. By discriminating against Muslims, and compromising the promise of the freedom of religion granted by the First Amendment, leaders of the political right are laying the groundwork for the future persecution of Christian groups when we are no longer in the majority.

I say to these leaders, be careful what you wish for. It just might come true.
