Wolf thinning rationale untrue
The letter from Philip Waring (May 16) hit the nail square on the head in regard to wolf hunting. Many times it has been reported that the wolf population is in decline (endangered). The next thing I read is a report stating that the wolves are overpopulated, requiring a hunt to reduce their numbers. Also, that wolves are diminishing the elk and caribou herds. This statement has been proven to be untrue.
This seesaw effect has me confused, bringing to my mind that these wolves are being raised specifically for the hunters. Like Mr. Waring said, why not put a collar on them to make it easier and to ensure the “sportsman” bags his wolf. Now trapping is suggested. The buffalo are penned and shot from the fence. What sportsmanship.
The way our wild animals are “managed” breaks my heart. One day there won’t be enough space, water or food for all humans. I wonder who will be designated to cull us.
