TARP loss inflated

I would like to add my endorsement to Ann Warwick’s letter (“Deficit views inconsistent,” Letters, Feb. 5) and add one more point for consideration.

The TARP program – Troubled Asset Relief Program – is constantly described by the Republicans as a disaster, to be paid for by our children and their descendants for umpteen generations, when, in fact, much of it has already been paid back by the borrowers, with more payback to come. It’s too much to hope it will ultimately turn a profit, but it by no means can be said to cost the taxpayer what the Republicans would like us to believe.

The trouble with this behavior is that, even when they’re telling the truth, you doubt them.

How about this slogan for the next election: Down with Welfare for the Wealthy!
