Voter ID sensible
Leonard Pitts’ “Speak up for you rights” (July 23) accuses the GOP of trying to take away the right to vote from blacks. Additionally, he alleges that no voter fraud occurs. Preposterous! Dozens of voter fraud incidents, all with documented written or video proof, have cropped up in the last 10 years. It is no secret that pets, dead people, illegals and felons have all ended up on the voter rolls for years (can you spell A-C-O-R-N?).
Voter ID makes perfect sense. One already needs an ID to drive, receive health care, obtain prescription drugs, make credit/debit purchases, travel to another country, apply for insurance, or even qualify for food stamps. This fact alone destroys Pitts’ notion that voter ID laws keep the poor, and consequently the black community, down. The real reason the left opposes voter ID laws: legal or not, there’s no vote like a Democrat vote.
