Promised Land not reached

In response to the June 30 op-ed by Myrta Latich and Marianne Torres, I ask where in the Bible does it say that once you get to the Promised Land, you get to keep it? Where in the Bible does it say this land may not be shared? Where does it say to occupy another’s home?

I believe the Great Spirit meant the Promised Land to be a place of gentleness, peace, respect, community, understanding, selfless acts and love. If this is so, then the Israelis have still not arrived in the Promised Land.

We all participate in this apartheid; we judge, support our own egos, treat others as we would not want to be treated. We make rules out of our fears. Each new day we get the opportunity to make a more humane and thoughtful choice. We need to ask the question: Will our actions be good for all?

I commend these ladies for volunteering their time to hear the stories of these people on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian issue. They must feel no one is listening. Let us not support war, isolation or suppression of peoples as a promising solution. Not with our taxes or our behavior.
