Need animal control
Thank you for putting Stevens County’s abysmal animal neglect problem on the Jan. 27 front page, where it belongs. Kudos to Nancy Rose and all the people at the sanctuary working so hard taking care of the countless pets that are neglected, abandoned and worse. But words of support and an occasional donation aren’t enough. It’s time to stop turning our heads and looking away.
Andrew Hydorn claims horses were treated a lot worse 100 years ago and “still survived just fine.” Really? Was he there? If so, he must have been absent the day the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was founded. It was established to protect horses from mistreatment. If the arrangement to care for the horses on his property is unsatisfactory, it is his responsibility to correct the situation.
I voted for Don Dashiell, and I am extremely disappointed in his “we don’t need a dogcatcher” philosophy. The business end of a firearm isn’t always the best answer to a problem. The sad reality for the unwanted animals here has been ignored too long and needs to be addressed.
