Shine a light on problems

Regarding “Condon eyes civil service hiring,” (March 24). I have written about this numerous times to The Spokesman-Review, every mayor since 1992, many council members, state senators and governors. Spokane is the dingiest, most poorly lit city in which I’ve ever lived.

An increase in lighting exceeds an immediate decrease in crime and pedestrian and traffic accidents. It decreases the need for more police. It makes people safer at all times.

Why does everyone opt for expensive remedies when so much could be saved by simply increasing the level of lighting throughout Spokane?
