Questions about casino

Sheri Johnson’s April 30 letter left out some relative facts concerning another casino in Airway Heights. First, why is a group of investors willing to put up $450 million to add another casino in an area that has several gambling choices within a 90-minute drive? Are these people we want for neighbors?

Second, the possible 5,000 jobs would not be much more than the type of service jobs that Congress is debating now. Many of these people with families would need public assistance to live.

Third, to say that Fairchild Air Force Base would not notice might not be true, as the replacement tankers went to Kansas. Was that a coincidence?

Fourth, the Kalispel Tribe really doesn’t run Northern Quest, as they are really only a means to put organized gambling into our area. I am glad that the casino has helped the Kalispels, as they really were a tribe without assets. The Spokane Tribe already has gambling, and they certainly have assets that could be further developed.

Do you think profits from a casino that is financed by money from out of the area will probably stay here?
