No religious test

In reply to Douglas Benn’s letter (“Return to Christian Roots.” April 8), I would like to point out the fact that Benn needs to do some research before he criticizes Sally Jackson or anyone else.

First, his quote is not in the Constitution but rather in the Declaration of Independence. Further he even misquoted that phrase. Rather than his misquote of “our Creator has endowed us with certain unalienable rights” it reads “that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights…”

This sort of nonsense is what so-called Christians try and do to claim we are a Christian Nation. Thank goodness for the First Amendment.

Also he should check the last paragraph of Article 6 of the Constitution which states “no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”
