Get over Zehm salute

I seem to be missing something in your reporting of the police chief confirmation process. As I recall Ben Stuckart said at or just prior to the announcement that he was not happy with the only two candidates to choose from for police chief. He wanted more candidates after a nearly yearlong search and lots of volunteer hours spent finding three, then two candidates.

How much did this have to do with Mayor Condon’s appointment of Craig Meidl? Did not Stuckart’s remarks indicate that he wanted to start over with the search, thereby throwing out hundreds or thousands of hours of volunteer work? He was never asked that, as I recall. Why don’t Shawn Vestal or Doug Clark ever mention this in their continuing efforts to prevent Craig Meidl from becoming chief of police and their efforts to help Ben Stuckart to become mayor?

Finally, as I recall, we voted for a strong mayor replacing a city manager to make these type of decisions. The salute happened; an apology was given, along with an explanation. I say get over it and move on, or spend another year in time and money finding candidates that are as qualified as Craig Meidl.
