City Council needs Beggs

Spokane is once again in a low period with our police department. We haven’t had a permanent ombudsman for more than a year, our chief was forced out amidst scandal and high-level cover-up, officers are allegedly involved in sexual misconduct with a female officer and crime victims, and the head of the Police Guild allegedly involved in criminal activities. At the same time, the city is going to begin negotiating a new contract with the police unions.

It is clear that we need solid leadership from our city leaders to represent the interests of the public in these negotiations, in the hiring of a new chief and in police reform and oversight efforts.

This is why we need Breean Beggs on the City Council. Breean has been a longtime advocate for sensible and balanced police oversight, for meaningful criminal justice reform and for accountability at City Hall. As an attorney, Breean has an understanding of what can be done to reform our police department, to restore trust and accountability.

We need a Smart Justice and police accountability leader at City Hall who is the voice of the community. Breean can be that voice.
