Steves gets political

My husband and I attended the Rick Steves talk sponsored by KSPS. We were looking forward to an evening with friends and learning about travel and a glimpse of the world through Steves’ experienced eyes. The first hour of his talk did not disappoint. The second portion of his talk began with an overhead picture of a group of people (he pointed out, not unlike his audience) but in the background were two very large swastikas.

Steves commenced to inform us that the people in this picture were also good people, like us, and cautioned us about the road we are going down. He needs to either keep politics out of his talks or print a warning that we will be subjected to his rejection of our elected president and his left-leaning views.

I would caution KSPS (public TV for all the public?) to be aware of the text of your sponsored speakers. We paid to learn and enjoy, not be cornered into a political lecture. Steves lost potential customers, and KSPS lost us as viewers and we won’t be pledging.

Steves should stick to travel.
