‘Liberal’ a lovely word

Am I the only person who finds this current use of the word “liberal” by political parties as almost a swear word.

I believe I am a liberal because I accept other people’s points of view, racial origins, and political and/or religious viewpoints, even if I don’t always agree with their belief. I believe everyone has a right to believe as they see fit. If that makes me a liberal and therefore someone to be denigrated by the political parties so be it, but please don’t hijack a lovely word.
