Keep local newspapers alive

At the Pink Martini Concert, the group leader had a copy of the paper on his piano, and said the Spokesman was the best paper he has read since the demise of the Oregonian, subscribe to it do not let it die.

I agreed, then I found in Sunday’s paper a major front-page article about GU’s questionable housing of some problem Jesuits. A tribute and an in-depth look at Maestro Eckart Preu’s hire and his time in Spokane. Jim Price wrote an outstanding piece about Turbulator, the best horse to race in Spokane. This was followed by extensive coverage of the NFL draft and the local schools that had players drafted. Last but not least among other interesting articles was finding the start of the Rhine River. Other articles covered condo laws, poetry, breaking news.

The spirit of the old Oregonian has arrived in Spokane and is alive. Let’s keep it well, and not let the Spokesman decline into nothing like the Oregonian.
