Chadwick to retire from IAC in February, after 27 years heading counties group

Dan Chadwick (IAC)

Dan Chadwick, executive director and general counsel for the Idaho Association of Counties for the past 27 years, will retire on Feb. 2, the association announced today. “Throughout all of these years, I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities and challenges afforded my by IAC,” Chadwick said. “But now it is time for someone else to enjoy those opportunities and challenges. I will truly miss the intricate problems we as counties get to solve on behalf of our citizens.”

During Chadwick’s tenure, he and the association have been deeply involved in major changes and reforms to the state’s indigent system; its juvenile corrections system; its elections system; its property tax system and more. “Dan’s retirement brings us to the end of an era that cannot be equaled. His contributions have been immeasurable,” said Bill Thompson, association president and the Latah County prosecutor. “IAC has been very blessed with Dan’s service and dedication and we are fortunate to have such a strong foundation to build our future and the future of Idaho’s counties.”

Prior to joining the association, Chadwick served as a deputy attorney general and division chief for five years under then-Idaho Attorney General Jim Jones. He is a University of Idaho College of Law graduate and grew up in Emmett.

The association has formed a search committee to search for Chadwick’s replacement, and hopes to select someone before the end of the year.
