Backpacker ‘Leave No Trace’ program at REI tonight

HIKING — A program on the eroding practice of leaving the backcountry better than we find it will be presented tonight in Spokane by a trails advocate who practices what she preaches.
Holly Weiler will present the free Leave No Trace seminar tonight, 7 p.m. at the Spokane REI store. You can preregister here .
Weiler is a Spokane Mountaineer and the regional field coordinator for the Washington Trails Association , for which she organized trail building and maintenance projects.
She’ll no-doubt factor in good information about local and regional hiking destination during her program.
In the photo above, Weiler is on the left with a pack that’s more heavily loaded at the end of a five-day backpacking trip than it was at the start. She picked up litter the entire way through the Glacier Peak Wilderness.
Says Weiler:
In this class, learn what it takes to enjoy the best of our Inland Northwest trails while making minimal impact. We’ll explore the ways to protect our favorite natural settings through practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace…. Although Leave No Trace has its roots in backcountry and wilderness, the practices have been adapted so that they can be applied anywhere - from the backcountry, to local parks, to your backyard - and for any recreational activity.
