PUBLIC LANDS — Publicity about the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service may have contributed to Glacier National Park having its busiest month on record in July, with more than 818,000 people visiting the Montana gem.

To put the figures into perspective, about 11,400 people went through the west entrance of Glacier Park every day in July 2016, about a thousand shy of the total number of visitors to the park in 1916.

Park officials say that the previous single-month record was set in July 2014, when nearly 700,000 people visited the park.

More than 1.5 million people have visited Glacier so far this year. That compares to 1.3 million over the same period last year.
