Spokane skywalks: Yes or no?

I like the downtown skywalks.

But I know some say they are an urban design disaster because they keep people off the street level.

There could be something to that. But I like them because they remind me of Minneapolis, one of my favorite cities.

Why do I like Minneapolis? Lots of reasons. But one stands out.

In the Twin Cities, people who persistently whine about winter are all but shunned. The thought is, if you can't take cold weather perhaps you are in the wrong place and maybe you should move.

Many Minneapolis residents take pride in the cultural vibrance of their city and they would look askance at someone whose No. 1 lifestyle consideration is balmy weather. Maybe there is a lesson there for other northern tier cities.
