The Slice

Why has the S-R scaled back its Bloomsday coverage?

You can agree or disagree about whether it actually has. But assuming you think the newspaper covers the event less comprehensively in recent years than it once did, what explains that?

You pick.

A) Shrinkage of newsroom staff, resources. B) Certain key SR staffers who were absolutely gaga about Bloomsday are long gone. C) Fluctuating physical fitness of those in top newsroom management positions. D) Bloomsday, important as it unquestionably is, gets less and less new. E) It has something to do with the fact The Inlander is the print outlet that now publishes the list of names of all participants. F) We've Done That Syndrome. G) The popularization of the term "Bloomie" dampened interest. H) Really, what's left to say? I) It's no longer the only event on Spokane's "Thanks, here's your T-shirt" calendar. J) About 90 percent fewer Bloomsday coverage planning meetings. K) Other.
