Condon’s decisions haunting

In the fall of 2012, the Spokane City Council voted unanimously (6-0, Steve Salvatori absent) to confirm Mayor David Condon’s recommended choice for police chief, Frank Straub. In actuality, the sole reason that Straub became Spokane’s police chief is that Condon used his strong mayoral powers to recruit Straub from Indianapolis and actively promoted him for the police chief appointment.

Now that the honeymoon period is over, Condon is using his powers to dismiss Straub? It makes me wonder: In how many other instances will Condon’s decisions come back to bite the citizens? Indeed, the halls and cubicles of 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. are haunted with Jimmy Marks’ spirit, as he continues to stir dissonance, distrust and discontent within Spokane’s governing body this Halloween season.
