The Slice

Waiting on the wind

It's funny what goes through your mind as the next wind storm approaches.

Surely it won't be as bad as the last one.

But what if the forecast is wrong? What if it does turn out to be a repeat of November's high winds?

At least it's not all that cold.

But is it cold enough to put everything in the fridge outside?

So does rain-softened ground really make big trees more vulnerable?

Portable lamps and back-up batteries in place? Check.

Just when the conversation had moved on to something besides generators.

It will be so sad if everyone's outdoor holiday lights go dark.

At least I hadn't done anything yet about that section of downed fence.

What was that sound?
