Special Edition: Mordekye Layman
Mordekye Layman emerged on the local scene a few years back with emo-ish band Lucia's Grey Dot. Then he went solo and has been writing arresting ballads on acoustic guitar ever since. (Somewhere in there are excursions into the murderous mayhem of Dancing Cadavers, for which he plays drums). Kye's stripped down minimalistic sound is somber and meandering but comes across deliberate. The dynamics are well placed where he easily translates the embellished sound of the studio recording of "Casual Wednesdays" in its butt-naked acoustic form.
