Special Edition: Jason Webley Quartet

Jason Webley is a master when it comes to manipulating masses, so much so that the singer-songwriter and accordionist is notorious for once leading a horde of people, pied-piper style, into the International Fountain at Bumbershoot. Needless to say Webley has been banned from the Seattle Music Festival ever since, and he’s turned to other crowd-pleasing antics. Last year he started Camp Tomato, a day of fun and games and tomatoes. He is legendary for arriving to shows in a Toyota that was converted into a giant tomato; also legendary is his annual life, death and renewal ritual where he would be ceremoniously shaved by the audience (just his head), lowered into a glass casket and driven off in a hearse after a Halloween show and later resurrected on May Day. He doesn’t do that anymore, though, and he declined comment on why. Always an enigma, Webley continues to be one of the most intriguing live acts in the Northwest. In this set at Caterina, which finished off with the trademark drunken sing-along, he maintains his usual caliber of performance.
