“A Career Following Destruction: Restoring and Preserving Cultural Heritage in Afghanistan and South

May 1, 2018 - May 1, 2018

Dr. Laura A. Tedesco, a cultural heritage preservation and museum rehabilitation specialist from the US Department of State, will discuss her work in preserving and restoring cultural heritage to a country at its physical sites as well as music, literature and art. This work involves combating the sophisticated illicit network of looting archaeological sites and the problems with the trafficking in antiquities in the region. She will explore topics such as how decisions are made on what heritage sites to restore and when it is safe to do so. Her presentation will be accompanied by pictures of historic sites where she is currently working and has previously worked. Discussion will take place in Edminster Student Union Building’s Driftwood Bay Room.
