The gleaming walnut piano was the centerpiece of my mother Carol’s living room and, until her death last April at age 92, one of the big joys of her long life. Huckleberries: Tree City USA is getting a little bare

In the city known as tree city USA, it's no longer safe to be a tree. A dozen or so more trees that fronted North Idaho Museum were leveled last week in the name of flood prevention. They join hundreds of trees toppled along waterfront under edict by the Army Corps of Engineers and even some knocked over by Mother Nature during Wind Storm 2015.

“I had a good laugh reading about Barbara Greer’s baggage experience,” wrote Joyce Momb. “It reminded me of the first time my husband and I visited Hawaii. When the luggage belt started, I saw a deplorable suitcase coming out, bent in half with several pieces of underwear hanging out. I told my husband, I feel sorry for the owner of that bag. When the bag got closer to us, I realized, it was MY bag!”
