Murray-Rossi race a statistical dead heat

WASHINGTON – With two weeks to go, the Washington state U.S. Senate race is a virtual dead heat, with Democratic Sen. Patty Murray holding a 1-point lead, 48 percent to 47 percent, over Republican challenger Dino Rossi among likely voters, according to a McClatchy-Marist poll released Tuesday. The outcome could determine whether Republicans pick up the 10 seats they need to regain control of the Senate.

Stimulus hot topic in race for Congress

BOISE – Republican Raul Labrador and Democratic U.S. Rep. Walt Minnick are at odds over a series of letters sent by Minnick and other Idaho lawmakers seeking support of projects using federal stimulus money. Labrador attacked Minnick earlier this week for campaigning against government spending when the congressman supported the use of stimulus funds to expand broadband Internet in rural Idaho.

Congressional rivals’ debate back on again

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Democratic challenger Daryl Romeyn will debate tonight after all. The televised debate, which last week was listed as off, then on, then off again, was on again Monday as the two candidates finally both said yes at the same time. Barring some new last-minute change of heart, it will be taped this afternoon and appear at 7 p.m. on KXLY-TV and 8 p.m. on KSPS-TV.

Murray, Rossi debate taxes, earmarks, stimulus

Patty Murray and Dino Rossi continued their war of words over tax cuts, federal spending and health care Sunday as they debated a second and final time before next month’s election. Murray and other Democrats are about to drive the country over a financial cliff, Rossi warned. Rossi and other Republicans want to take the country back to the failed polices of the Bush administration, Murray said.

Woman blasts campaign ad that cites her lawsuit

The woman whose sexual harassment lawsuit was highlighted in a recent campaign commercial against state Sen. Chris Marr demanded Saturday that the ad be pulled from TV. In a hand-written letter released by the Marr campaign, Dawn Fowler said she was outraged when she saw the ad.

One of the downsides of being a panelist in a political debate is that people always ask “Who won?” That happened after Thursday’s debate between Patty Murray and Dino Rossi, and my answer was: “I don’t know.”
