County voting at slower pace than in 2008
Spokane County has a record number of registered voters this year, but unlike most presidential years that may not result in record turnout. A comparison of ballots returned through Tuesday with the same period in 2008 shows Spokane is significantly behind 2008. It is, however, ahead of the rates in the last two non-presidential years with other partisan races, 2006 and 2010.

Opposition to I-502 low on funds, outreach efforts
Many law enforcement and drug treatment professionals in Washington may oppose a ballot measure legalizing marijuana for adults. But that would be hard to guess from the campaign over Initiative 502. Supporters of I-502 have raised more than $5.6 million and are running a full-fledged campaign for the controversial ballot measure. Some of their ads even feature former Seattle law enforcement officials endorsing the measure.
Record number of voters registered in Spokane County
About 400 people came to the Spokane County elections office on Monday to register to vote. The numbers were far fewer than expected on the last day to register before the Nov. 6 election.

McKenna’s free travel studied
SEATTLE – Washington’s Republican candidate for governor, Rob McKenna, has spent a lot of time as attorney general traveling on other people’s dime, the Seattle Times reported Sunday. The newspaper said McKenna accepted nearly three times as many privately paid trips and event tickets over the past seven years as his predecessor, Gov. Chris Gregoire, did during her last eight years as attorney general.
