About The Measure

Spokane County commissioners are asking voters to increase property taxes to pay for purchasing and relocating housing near Fairchild Air Force Base as part of an effort to alleviate encroachments on the military base. If approved by voters it would increase the regular property tax levy up to 6.5 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2014, and would automatically terminate within 9 years or less. The money would be used exclusively to protect Fairchild by mitigating current encroachments, paying related costs, and resulting in a total authorized regular property tax levy rate of up to $1.40 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for collection in 2014.
