In this 2002 file photo, Eloise "Midge" Bartleson turns 105 and they threw a party for her at the Cooper George apartments. Cliff Carl showed up to sing a few songs and lead the Happy Birthday refrain for Midge who homesteaded and taught in the Pullman area with her parents.

In this 1952 file photo, few of the 144 apartments in the new, 13-story Cooper-George apartment house, will be opened for public inspection during the next eight days. Open house will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 4 to 9 p.m. week days. Workmen still are putting the finishing touches on the $1,750,000 cross-shaped building. The exterior will be painted a light green. Shown here is one of the living rooms. Most of the living rooms are at least 13x20 feet, considered large for modern apartments. Several furniture stores will be showing furnishings during the open house.

In this 1951 file photo, Spokane's Cooper-George apartment at Fifth and Wall is nearing completion. The roof was poured 10 days ago, and interiors of the first four floors are finished. J.L. Cooper, coowner of the $1,750,000 building with Henry George & Sons, said tenants would move in by January. The 13-story apartment house is the largest ever to be built in Spokane. Whitehouse & Price are the architects, and Henry George, the contractor.

The 13-story apartment, to be built at an estimated cost of $1.5 million is the tallest structure to be built in Spokane since the Depression. The plans call for 144 two and five room apartments on the 11 upper floors. The ground floor will have a shopping area.
