Peace Officers Memorial Day
Local law enforcement and community members gather at the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to honor these peace officers. Spokane Mayor David Condon has ordered flags at all city facilities to be lowered to half-staff to coincide with Peace Officers Memorial Day. On May 15, 1962, President John F. Kennedy declared the first Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor peace officers who lost their lives or became disabled in the line of duty.
