Workers prepare to add a wing onto the 1909 Marshall-Wells warehouse at 131 E. Main Ave. in this 1946 photo. The hardware company, which had taken over the Holley-Mason building in 1931, had leased out the building to the U.S. Forest Service and the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. In 1946, the company negotiated an end to the federal government’s lease and traded the Holley-Mason building for the larger warehouse.
