The steel girders of the new federal courthouse, in the upper center of the photos, is seen looking south from across the Spokane River gorge and the Monroe Street Bridge in this 1966 photo. The boxy architecture of the nine-story building was panned by locals for its homely exterior, but has been a part of the Spokane skyline since it opened in October of 1967. The building was renamed the Thomas S. Foley United States Courthouse in 2001.
