
Then and now: East Olive Avenue Bridge
The first East Trent Bridge, known as the East Olive Bridge when it was built in 1910, was a wooden structure resting on wooden pilings. the city approved a new steel bridge in 1908 because construction bids exceeded $100,000 the city built the new concrete bridge with city laborers and completed it in 1910 It spans more than 500 feet with a 40-foot wide roadway, plus sidewalks.

1917 - The 1910 East Olive Bridge is completed and carrying automotive and street car traffic on what would become part of East Trent Avenue. The concrete bridge replaced a rickety wooden bridge and the cost overruns pushed the price well over $100,000. The first 20 years of the 20th century saw more than a dozen new concrete bridges across the Spokane River.

2020 - The East Trent Bridge, called the East Olive Bridge when it was built in 1910, is scheduled for a complete replacement after 110 years of service. The Washington State Department of Transportation is currently considering new designs for the replacement and work could start in the spring of this year.
