Even 70 years ago, a big snowfall represented no school and lots of sledding for kids.

These kids were photographed in 1952 while sledding on Monroe street, near 14th, on Spokane's south hill. The street had been blocked of at the top and bottom to provide a safe place for neighborhood families to test the newly fallen snow.

These 1965 Panhandle District Boy Scouts race around a 1.5 mile competitive course with five stations near Camp Easton on Lake Coeur d'Alene. These boys had stopped at log chopping, Morse code, game trap, rope throw, and emergency toboggan stations, and were photographed heading toward the finish line.
