Then and Now: Riblet Mansion
Built in the Italian Renaissance style in 1924, the expansive mansion was once a showplace home for Royal Riblet, who worked for the tramway company that bore his surname. The building was purchased by Arbor Crest Wine Cellars in 1984 and rebuilt after a fire more than a decade ago.

This aerial photo, taken from an Air National Guard observation plane in 1932, shows the mansion and estate of Royal N. Riblet, an inventor and part of a family that built mining and aerial tramways at a Spokane factory starting in 1911.

The historic home built by Royal N. Riblet, photographed here in January 2020, on a rock outcropping overlooking the Spokane River Valley, is one of Spokane’s most recognizable homes. It is now called the Cliff House Estate by its owners, Arbor Crest Wine Cellars.
