These delivery boys for the Spokane Daily Chronicle pose for a picture in April 1924 after winning the “Mystery House” contest. Under the rules of the contest, the newspaper boy was given a bonus of $5 if he secured a new subscription from a house previously designated as a “mystery house.” This group received a special award for securing the most subscriptions. Most of the 300 Chronicle newspaper boys who took off for a big day at Coeur d’Alene gathered at the bus station on the morning of 1952. The boys won the trip and an all-day picnic in a subscription contest. They were to return in the evening after a big dinner in Coeur d’Alene.
