Joel Neubauer, 2, got a surprise Monday morning when his mother Cassie, pictured behind Joel, and his grandmother Marcella Davis took him to the season opening of the Looff Carrousel in Riverfront Park. Says Davis of the restart of the carrousel: “It’s so incredibly hopeful. Our town started breathing again.”

Jaydelyn Houske and her daughter Maple, 16 months, take a spin on the Looff Carrousel aboard Sneaky the Tiger, March 1, 2021, in Riverfront Park. It was the first time ever for Maple on the ride. The historic attraction has been shut down since March 17, 2021 due to COVID-19. Sneaky is only one of three carousel tigers displaying the pose know to exist.

Bridget Freeman, of Spokane, was on the first ride of the Looff Carrousel when it reopened, Monday, March 1, 2021, in Riverfront Park. The ride has been shut down since Mach, 17, 2020 due to COVID-19. Freeman, who has worked on the historic ride in the past, knows the horses names and even has three of the horses named after her daughters. This horse is named Oliver's Pride. She had a day pass which allowed her to continuously ride.
