Summary

Ferris goalkeeper Alex Pells made two crucial saves and Callan Martin scored the winning penalty as the Saxons edged host Pasco 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday to advance to the State 4A soccer tournament.

Ferris took a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute when Eric Hollenbaugh netted a goal between the legs of the Pasco goalkeeper off a pass from Terry Cox.

Seven minutes later, Pasco responded with a breakaway goal from Hector Magana.

After regulation and both overtime periods, the score remained tied 1-1. Pells made saves on Pasco's first and fourth shots in the shootout, with Martin scoring on Ferris’ fourth attempt.

Connor Ourada, Matt Beaulaurier and Jonny Galgalo also converted their spot kicks for Ferris.

The Saxons will host Cascade on Wednesday in the first round of the state tournament.

Ferris made it to state last year. After a 4-2 first-round win over Mt. Rainer, the Saxons were eliminated after falling 3-1 to Union in the quarterfinals.
